Processing Station
The poor infrastructure in this area accompanied by the heavy rains during Coffee harvest season hinders the farmers from delivering fresh cherries to washing stations that are stationed far away from the farm. Such access and transportation problem makes the farm get price to be low and delay on time affects quality of cherries. Hence by locating our station close to the farmers it helps them get very competitive /attractive farm gate price.
Buying directly from the farmers yards or at close proximity helps us secure coffee from similar altitude of about 1900 – 2500 m acl which helps better cup test score.
Proximity means we made sure fresh cherries are processed timely and our experts give closer assistance to the farmers on mechanisms to improve harvest and other practices.
Fresh cherries go through raw material characterization where manual sorting for unripe and other defects is done and only fully red (ripe) and defect free cherries are processed. After the sorting, based on client’s specific demands our consulting firm recommend the best kind of processing;either Natural or Washed processing.
Natural: For this, sorted cherries will be kept in UV sheds or Green house and out on the sun for drying till the required moisture content is achieved under close monitoring of humidity and temperature.
Washed : Pulping is followed by the recommended type of fermentation based on desired output and finally drying of parchment in UV sheds or green houses until the desired moisture content is achieved and parchment is stored until ideal for hulling.
Stationed at the middle of the farms and having records from where or which farm cherries are, records of the subsequent processes, such traceability gives us confidence in maintaining consistency of quality.
We have energetic and experienced team who are dedicated to assuring quality in every step from farm to parchment and beyond by supporting the farmers, managing and controlling the process.
Locating our station close to the farmers means, women farmers are the prime beneficiaries as it saves them money and time that would have been spent travelling to cities to sell cherry and gave them plenty of time for household and family. In addition to this, half of the employees of our station are women.
As a newly established company, though we can’t have much to list of our social responsibilities, but so far Our company has made sure all job opportunity to be allocated only to the locals from the same village and we have trained our transporting staff to support elders, women and school children by giving them free ride on their way.
But as our company grows gradually, we plan to raise our support to the farmers and their families in ways that can help them grow sustainably.
